We're an agency.
Try not to stare.

That's not the culture. That's the offer. Smoulder hires on talent and bone structure, in ascending order of importance, and has never lost a pitch it was physically present for.

Independently scored 9.4 / 10. Instrument calibrated this morning.

01The thesis
Attractiveness is a competitive advantage. We're the only agency willing to say it out loud.

Every agency calls its people their greatest asset. We took that literally and built the hiring process around it. The portfolio matters. The cheekbones matter more. We've stopped pretending the order is the other way round.

The data is uncomfortable and consistent. In a windowless room on the fourteenth floor, the deck that wins is rarely the best deck. It's the deck presented by the person the client can't stop looking at. We do not run focus groups. We are the focus.

We don't test the creative. The client tested it the moment we walked in, and forgot the question. What you're buying is a four-second engagement before a single slide, and an unfair advantage you'll spend the rest of the year explaining to procurement.

In a crowded category, symmetry is a moat.
02By the numbers
The metrics that matter, and the ones we measure instead.
9.4
Average team attractiveness, independently scored, instrument calibrated this morning.
0
Focus groups run to date. We are the focus group.
100%
Pitches won while physically in the room. Remote win rate withheld.
4s
Average time from "hello" to client capitulation.
1
Times someone read the actual strategy. An intern. Since let go.
Eye contact available, held precisely as long as the contract requires.
03Capabilities
A full-service offer, if the service is being looked at.
001

Walking Into Rooms

The foundational discipline. We enter; the brief becomes secondary; the meeting quietly reschedules itself around us.

002

Devastating First Impressions

A four-second engagement window before a single slide. Independently shown to outperform a forty-page strategy and most of its authors.

003

Sustained Eye Contact

Held exactly long enough to close the round. Our account directors are trained and certified to a national standard.

004

Strategic Lingering

We remain in the doorway a beat too long. The client will remember nothing about the work and everything about the exit.

005

Brand & Identity

Yours. Materially improved by sustained association with ours. A rising tide, and we are the tide, and we are also rising.

006

The Pitch

We don't rehearse. We moisturise. The deck is a formality we've agreed to perform while you decide things you've already decided.

04The people
Our greatest asset, and we mean that with a specificity that makes HR nervous.

We were advised — repeatedly, in writing — to withhold these. We've chosen transparency. Please remain seated.

Challenge
Declining relevance among the under-35s, and a category that had quietly stopped caring.
Our insight
The product was fine. The people presenting it were not us.
What we did
We presented it.
Result
+340% consideration. The client has not looked at the data. The client has not looked away from the team.

Challenge
Build trust in a category with none, ahead of a Series C.
Our insight
Trust is just attractiveness you've gotten used to.
What we did
We stood near the logo, consistently, for one quarter.
Result
Round closed in a single meeting nobody on either side can reconstruct.

Challenge
Cut through in a market where every competitor said the same five words.
Our insight
Nobody reads the strategy. Everybody reads the room.
What we did
Read the room. Lingered.

07Approach
A four-step process. Nothing is required of you.
1

We arrive

In person. We do not send a junior. We arrive, devastatingly, and slightly early.

2

You notice

Nothing is asked of you here. It is involuntary, and we've found it's best not to resist.

3

The brief goes quiet

It still gets delivered. On time, to spec. You simply will not feel the need to check it.

4

Results

Measurable, attributable, and almost certainly down to the work. We're as surprised as you are.

We're hiring. Mostly cheekbones.

We recruit on portfolio and bone structure, weighted heavily toward the latter. Applications include a cover letter we won't read and a headshot we will study at length, for reasons our lawyers have asked us not to commit to writing.

  • 5+ years' experience, or cheekbones that suggest you didn't need it
  • Comfortable being looked at throughout stakeholder reviews
  • Able to hold eye contact through an entire budget conversation
  • Strategic thinking a plus – a genuine plus, we're not monsters
  • Must photograph in a way our compliance team can survive
